From containers to cash: Fundraising via the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme

From containers to cash: Fundraising via the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme

Are you looking for another revenue stream for your club, charity, school, or community group? Preferably a revenue stream that forgoes the hassle of selling products or services, signing contracts, or even paying tax? A source of income that also helps to clean up the environment and protect our oceans? Look no further than that discarded bottle or can by the side of the road (as long as it is an eligible container, of course!).

The Victorian Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) in a Nutshell

When it comes to fundraising, the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme is a win-win solution. For every eligible can or bottle returned to Recycle4Change, your club or group receives a 10-cent refund. This not only provides a source of fundraising but also encourages recycling, litter reduction, and the promotion of a cleaner environment. The simplicity and effectiveness of this scheme makes it an ideal fundraising method for various entities.

Eligible Containers and Collection Guidelines

To participate in the scheme, it is essential to know which containers are eligible and how to collect them.

Ensure your bottles and cans are eligible

Most beverage containers (between 150mL and 3L) made from aluminium, glass, plastic, steel, and liquid paperboard are eligible, but there are exceptions (such as wine and spirit bottles, and milk containers), so it’s crucial to check the official guidelines to ensure the containers you collect qualify.

Follow the collection guidelines

Remember that containers should be empty, uncrushed, and have the original label intact to qualify for the refund. By adhering to these simple guidelines, you ensure that the containers can be recognised and processed by our machines, maximising your fundraising efforts.

Fundraising options with Recycle4Change

When it comes to fundraising via the Victorian CDS, you can be as passive or active as you like. And whichever option you choose, we can record how many containers you collect and drop in and thus how much water and energy you’ve saved – great information for your charity newsletter or annual report.

Passive income: house a bin

House one of our 240L bins and encourage your community to deposit their empty drinking containers there. When it’s full simply let us know and we will pick it up and process the containers for you.

Active income: get out there and collect cans and bottles!

Discarded drinking containers represent half of Australia’s litter and pollution. The environment benefits when your community run a clean-up drive, and so do you. Simply deliver the eligible containers you collect to one of our super-fast sorting facilities to redeem your refunds (and feel good about the rest of the rubbish you removed from your local environment, too!).
